Insomnia
I tell the birds good morning and they
chirp back at me
Ants, spiders, beetles crawl under my feet
like the overlord of this dominion
meanwhile the eternal traveler reaches
its zenith, casting a warm, dark glow on my body
an imprint, the shadow of a higher being I
will never see. He controls my actions, my destinations
I’m bound to a faint ripple on the grass, a silhouette
in the background. Never to feel, touch, or interact
never feared or scorned, loved or
hated
my opinions are worthless, my emotions discarded
But when night sets and the disk rises
I am free, free of actions and reactions, expressions and impressions
I can roam, forever hidden out of sight
and I set my own shadow free.
