The Selfbattle
“They’re fighting again….” She sighs as she leans over her perch,
Watching the scientist and the writer battle.
“It’s the same thing over and over again,
The scientist wants her to study for her exam,
The writer wants her to work on her books,
They are constantly trying to get her attention.
Whenever this happens she can’t do anything,
Expect worry.
They both feel like she’s falling behind,
That she won’t be as good as her friends
Who only chose one path.
She feels like she’s going to split in two.
They’re fighting doesn’t help.
They are so huge
That I can’t do anything most of the time.
I’m the human
The one who tells her
Watch TV
Hang with friends
Obsesses over boys
Worry about brothers, family, and friends.
I’m only influential when those two get tired;
But when she gets worried she starts to hate me.
Then those two start up again and I can’t do anything!
They’re just so big!
I understand why they fight.
They’re afraid she might forget about one of them
That one day one of them will disappear.
I hope she doesn’t choose.
She knew it would be hard keeping all of us
I hope she still thinks it’s worth it.
In the end
We all just want her to be happy.”
