Where I Am From
I am from a historic town,
where I feel isolated, alone.
  From the woods out back,
in a tree with a book.
I am from the stars in the sky,
  with their once bright glow.
I am from a tomboy attitude,
Dad teaching archery in the woods.
  From caring, gentle hands,
Grandpa sitting in his chair saying “God bless”.
  I am from soul-searching conversations,
  with my best friend--my mom.
  I am from my fantasies,
that I time-consumingly read and write.
  From my drawings,
  meaningful, maze-like, and complex.
  I am from my music,
  sending a spirit-lifting message.
  I am from childlike pleasures,
a “special blankie,” stuffed animals, books.
  From communication,
    family feuds to class speeches.
I am from my group of few,
  male, female, best friend, boyfriend.
I am from outdoor summer days,
wearing graphic tees and blue jeans.
From the gardens around our house,
  Daddy’s Edelweiss.
I am from my historic town,
  where I feel isolated, alone.
