Favorite Quote:
"Hard and fast."

I lost it.
I hid it in the trees, in the night,
When you were holding the lighter and I, the light.
Green on hands and coke cans,
Stupid things, stupid things,
Stupid kids.
The snakes are climbing the trees!
The sky!
The stars!
My head is lost.
I hid it.
In the earth and sand.
Under twigs and feet,
Beneath converse and beer breath,
Within the stolen substances of our happiness,
And our illusioned sense of love,
I hid it.
When your eyes were clouds,
And your mind turned to soggy bread,
Soaked in those substances that so frequently told us
We were right.
And so I cheated,
I pulled wire from game controller,
And put it in myself instead and said,
I’m lost.

But see, how can you believe me,
When you poked my skin for awnsers,
Found none, and sent me home with the wrong awnser,
The one I wanted you to know.
And we told it to all our friends,
Our loved ones, and the ones we cut.
The ones we stole from.
I stole from.
I stole their sense of right and wrong by blinding them with my own blood.
Our loved ones.
There is no difference, see?
When you cannot tell the difference.
When your heart is swollen with too much,
Too much,
Too much.
An abundance of things I cannot begin to draw,
Or write,
Or sing.
Or strum on strings,
Or bounce off keys,
Things that create
Me.
I am birch,
And I die when you strip me raw.
So give them back.

Green lips, and salted kisses
Salted with beer and rum and stale chewing gum.
With sick intent and clouded eyes,
And tins and pill bottles
To save the things we love.
But save does not mean to renew innocence,
But to hide,
So hide we did.
And we told them we lost our minds,
The ones with wires stuck in their spines,
We said we lost it all.
And so I repeat,
I lost it.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece as a reflection after a very long and very michievious night. It's a confession of sorts, one which I'm sure many people my age can relate to. All I can say is that I hope my mom doesn't find it.
