Changing Winds
Changes occurring all around me.
The flowers bud and bloom,
poking through snow and frost,
showing their faces for the first time.
They reach upwards toward the hope of spring.
The wind here is a smiling breeze,
whispers of new life winding through early morning mist.
The sun escapes the cover of showering clouds,
and shines its light into a new season.
The summer wind is an almost silent fragment of a song,
blowing only every now and then
with a breeze of freedom.
Fruits are born, the harvest approaching.
Then fall comes fading in, slowly but surely,
with paintbrushes for all the leaves: red, yellow, orange, gold, brown. . .
Harvest is here.
The wind this time of year is a cool breeze blowing with a chill of the coming season.
Winter billows in with a whoosh!
Snow, snow all around. Frost, freezes, ice.
The wind is all at once banging on the door with a gust of warning.
And then, all is still.
The white winter silence settles in, and with it comes the sun again.
Snow melts, buds bloom,
and the circle continues
into another year.
