Icicle Eyes
The girl with the icicle eyes taught me
that beauty is everywhere.
I would watch for hours as her eyes
skimmed in circles
searching for things she could not see.
I would ask her why?
And she would smile, knowing
my curiosity.
She would take my hand and place it
on her cheek.
She would look me in the eye,
or at least I would move so that her eyes
looked at mine.
And she would tell me that I am beautiful.
And she would tell me that the world is beautiful.
And she would explain the world through her eyes,
crusted and unseeing,
the color of frost and rain.
The girl with the icicle eyes taught me
that beauty is everywhere
as I watched for hours as her eyes
skimmed in circles
searching for things she could not see.
