I Knew
I knew as soon as you said you were in the ER
and my first instinct was to drive to meet you there,
that I'll never be able to get over you.
I knew as soon as you said the hospital name
and I made a list of what to bring you to keep you occupied,
that this love is far from fake.
I knew as soon as you said you might have to stay overnight
and I started packing clothes into a backpack,
that you are everything I want.
I knew as soon as you said you didn’t know what was wrong
and my heart broke inside me once again,
that I had to tell you I love you.
I knew as soon as you said they let you go
and a wave a relief swept over me,
that you mean the world to me.
