Soldier, Please
Soldier of steel, hold steady, my hand
And look.
See its shudder of shellshock,
And engraved trenches, filled with the devils silva.
Blink and look again.
See its connection, invade its lonely viens
Watch as insanity fires throughout,
A bloody bullet, shot from my heart.
Please open your eyes to mine.
See the too wise glance, the crooked perceptions.
The battle between my glorified fantasy,
And the dreadful, regimented reality.
Soldier of steel, hold steady, my hand
And please; don't make me look to it,
Without a seal of undying love,
And a promise to return, my man.

I've been reading a lot of WW1 poetry, and got inspired to create some of my own.
