Icarus Walks Where You Have Already Ran
There is a story amongst my people
Of a boy who flew too close to the sun
And fell into the sea
But Mel
My darling,
When I think of you
All I see is how Icarus found the strength to walk
To pull himself up,
Broken wings and melted ashes
From the sea,
To move forward and prosper
Because if the sun wouldn’t have him
Then he would forge his own path
Of ashes and wax
A broken image bent into fire and brimstone
To make a destiny of his own
Icarus did not fail my love,
Falling from the sky is not a sin.
That first step he took upon the sea
Is where life truly begins.
