The notes played on the piano
Drummed with rhythmic perfection
Seemed to act as a coherent whole
Painting the gray canvas outside
With crescendos and diminuendos
Different shades and overtones
Pastel and watercolor
Then the garbage truck outside roared
Splattering mud all over the masterpiece
