Because I Toppled
Look here, small girl
And I will tell you
The world is tainted like rust
Tiny child, there are no more reflections for you
Little thing you need to grow
Make a trunk resilient to sharp wedges
Sprout your branches where not a thing can scratch
Thicken your leaves so piercing eyes can not poke
Small girl, make resistance
Puncture the forest dirt with winding roots and grip tight, child
Give the wind some challenge
Frighten with your stance
And tower towards the soaring sea
Tiny child, darken your mind
Little thing, I was told this once
And I will scorn you now
But I lessened my hold
And I let creatures tear my bark
Helpless girl, do not let them
Do not let them carve with their knives
I promise it is all lies
Innocent girl, I am begging you
Do not let them look
Do not let them witness any shreds
It’s all they’ll ever see
For after, it’s all they saw in me
Small girl, make resistance

The poem really came from no where. I just sat down and wrote what came. But I believe if there was a place this poem sat is was where I feared for my little baby niece. I want to be sokething great for her and make sure she is ready for everything. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's where this came from.
