Conformity
Conform
To act in accordance or harmony.
Comply.
To be or become similar
in form, nature, or character.
Why must we conform?
To be alike.
Assimilation.
Low self-esteem.
No confidence.
We need to be like everyone else.
But why?
Will we be mocked?
Laughed at?
Spit upon?
Or could we just not live with ourselves.
Can we look in the mirror,
and know that we’re different?
And be okay with it?
Or is it so drilled into our heads,
that we just can’t accept ourselves?
For who we truly are.
And whose fault is that?
Does it matter?
It is our obstacle to overcome.
Each generation worse than the last.
So maybe the time has come.
To change.
To be different.
To challenge societal norms.
And to be okay with it.
