Checkers
How do you play checkers?
Are you the old man?
With his carved oak cane
Wise, intelligently calculating each move
But stuck in his ways
Are you the newcomer?
With his shiny gold jewelry
Energetic, happily playing the game
But making dumb mistakes
Are you the onlooker?
With his comfortable brown overalls
Observant, patiently waiting to play
But too shy to speak up
Are you the advice giver?
With his ironed blue suit
Helpful, generously giving advice
But discourteous to others’ opinions
Are you the record keeper?
With his spiffy dress shirt
Organized, carefully writing results
But oblivious to the fun
How do you play checkers?
