I am from a backyard full of livelihood
From rabbits and birds
And a basin with no water.
I am from two different homes, two different moms,
Two different lives and two different loves.

It felt like floating on clouds
Somehow spoiled but yet educated
I am from the raisin tree, the mango tree
With huge bites of tastefulness and watery mouths
I am from my mother’s lap
Gathered on the front porch with friends and family
Enjoying the moments we were allowed to live

The dishes and the cleanliness
From “Sit down and behave”
And “Good job, I’m proud of you”
I am from the Christian church
From the praises, and worships, and Amens
I am from the high mountains and the long flowy rivers
From the griyo and the plantains.
From the single mother with four kids
With plenty of love and laughs.
From the father that never stopped caring and protecting.
