Where I'm From
I am from traveling around the country with teammates to kick a ball, black and white.
From our losses and wins, to dripping sweat and tears,
I’ve learned the true meaning of best friends.
From a home plastered with red, yellow, and blue on the walls,
Dad’s idol, Bruce Springsteen, running throughout house.
Wasting the day watching Netflix.
I am from the warm kisses my goldendoodle gives.
Chipped nail polish, stubborn brown hair, and my squinty eyes,
the constant question “Are you always smiling?”
From watching my grandpa age to 90 with grace.
His years as a veteran in his eyes,
bringing honor and dignity to the Vento family name.
I am from sitting under the sweltering Siesta Key sun,
loving the unforgettable times with family friends.
Our last days in paradise fade away, as quickly as the sun.
From committing to play soccer at Cleveland State.
Pre-wrap, grass stains, and sweaty jerseys,
following me through the twists and turns of my journey.
