A 2:33 am Plea
I know that I am guilty
of wanting more than
you are willing to give,
but all I ask is for you to
lend me your eyes,
and I will take nothing
but the void within your pupils,
so that I may explore the part of you
that no one has ever seen.
lend me your chest,
and I will take nothing
but the rhythm of your heart,
so that my thoughts will have
a cadence to follow.
lend me your stomach,
and I will take nothing
but the empty feeling inside of it,
so that I am the only one
who has to endure it.
lend me your elbow,
and I will take nothing
but the part that has no feeling,
so that I have somewhere to go
when there is nowhere left.
lend me your hand,
and I will take nothing
but the bruises of your knuckles,
so that I can morph their black and blue
into a shade of yellowy forgiveness.
lend me your palm,
and I will take nothing
but the creases that line it,
so that I can follow their road maps
and find my way to you.
lend me everything.
lend me nothing.
lend me you.
