Mask Sonnet
A porcelain refuge to hide behind,
Not a single small trace of pain to find,
It’s a lot easier to just pretend,
To get more noticed, to make some new friends.
I really love my mask, I wear it well,
To all I’m flawless, though they cannot tell,
Some things so fragile they are hard to keep,
Physical pains can only cut so deep.
Without my mask, where could I possibly hide?
They don’t understand the hurt deep inside.
Until I can discover my true face,
No one will know my actual place.
What they don’t understand can’t hurt them at all,
But when I show my true face, they will fall.
