I watched my friends

Disappear one by one

As I faded from memory

Like a dead, stone cold sun.

I close my eyes,

And never a day passes without regret,

For the time I lost

And all my dreams and wishes

Shattered, dead.

My only companions are my memories,

Only they keep me alive

Far more than the solid food and drink

I need to physically survive.

Though I know I'm only a single spark

From a dying fire

I hope beyond all hopes, to somehow reignite

Another flame that burns even higher.

As insignificant as I am

A wisp of smoke blown away,

There is still one heart that won't forget,

And in that heart I'll stay.

Even when memories grow dim,

I will still be here, always,

For thinking constantly of you,

In my mind,

Is all that makes up my days.

The author's comments:

I was suddenly inspired to write this piece when an urge came over me to write. I feel this poem describes some feelings that just had to come out of me somehow, expressing things I didn't know could be expressed so simply with pencil and paper.

I love the raw emotion behind this poem. Well done

The rhyming is intelligent. I think it could've had a better flow to it, though.
