Don't Let Go
Eager to move, I began to crawl.
Inch by inch, I learned to walk.
Step after step,
fall after fall,
exploring new things,
I wanted it all.
In the blink of an eye,
my feet went wilder.
From tiny, tedious steps,
to strides that put the stars in my grasp,
nothing could slow me down.
Wide-eyed and dreaming
of the journey more than the destination,
there are no limits to where
these feet may take me.
Grandpa says dreams are like balloons:
don’t let go
or they’ll simply
float away.
I tell him,
My balloons are
bold and brilliantly red
and double knotted ‘round my wrists.
He smiles
because he knows
I’m ready to soar.
