THIS TIME I'LL SEE IT, I'LL SEE IT FOR SURE
“This time I’ll see it, I’ll see it for sure”
I announce loudly, importantly.
As my mother shakes her head in dismay
“What if you fall asleep again outside?” she says.
“I told you I’ll see it!”
There’s no stopping me.
She goes back in.
The house, swept into darkness, stands behind.
Sniff, sneeze, cough, hum, recite, revise, rewind.
Hence, I pass my time.
My eyes droop down, head slops to the right.
Vulnerable, I take flight- into the woods.
The woods, deep woods, dark woods.
The deep dark woods.
Afraid? I’m not!
Driven to my core,
I’ll see it!
There’s no stopping me now.
I flutter through the trees,
Skim their trunks, dart past the branches
Stop dead at some sound.
Scared? I’m not!
Flared, I am.
I chase my time away.
One, two, three hours have fled.
My aim is set.
Stay awake! I tell my mind.
Back in front of my house, I sigh.
Another hour to pass by.
I gaze at the sky
The sky that cradles the stars,
Millions of them.
I dream-riding a star,
Going beyond it all,
Embracing the unknown.
Focus! I tell my mind
For it’s time now.
I spot the first few rays,
Flitting through the trees
Escaping, evading, swiftly making their way
Sifting through, fondling the grass.
I skip to the golden place, touch that grass.
Astonished, awed, I skitter back.
And then I see it.
I finally see it for sure.
The majestic, the magnificent
The imperial, the lucent.
The one that sustains me,
The one that sustains you-
The Sun.
Yes, I see the sunrise.
There’s no stopping me now.
