My Favorite Distraction
The day closes-
a tight balancing act-
Left alone in the darkness
Under starry skies,
I run with the radio waves
searching for your text messages,
but they gravitate to the stars,
and I lay hopeless on my bed.
Stretched tenuously across
the horizon, as if you would
catch my math homework as it
flies out of my hand,
as if you are the home
of lost songbirds flying to heaven,
and the home of my
wandering mind, wayward vagabond.
far in corporeal urgency
but
near in spiritual desire,
He a believer stuck in crosshairs,
She a goddess strutting the hallways,
Up late-nights with blue hue
of computer humming, but while
the rest of them study, I doodle
your face in my notebook,
My favorite distraction.

I wrote this poem after realizing my grades were slipping due to a certain someone I kept thinking about....haha. This is an earlier poem I wrote, so it's pretty abstract and metaphorical rather than just stating it outright. Anyways, this is just a cute, lovey-dovey poem I hope you enjoy(ed) :)
