Camouflaged
Colors of predators blend into the trees.
We stand still. Very still. Bang! Bang!
The echo tells us, they’re here.
Millions of stars welcome the night
Our eyes fill with fear, adjust to the dark
The sound of shuffling feet fill the silence.
We flee through the woods,
Gliding along with the wind
Adrenaline running.
Looking out for the inexperienced
The long day, turned into longer nights
It’s our turn to blend into the trees.
The dew of dawn coats the frozen ground
An engine revs, tires squeal
The moon disappears, we’ve made it.
