Je vais devenir un souvenir oblie
Shocked and outraged, the world in uproar! –
as if they had never seen terrorism before.
Twelve shot dead for using their freedom of speech –
Isis attempting to scrub it away with red bleach.
No!
Je suis Charlie
Nous sommes tout Charlie
We will spell your name in candles
to illuminate the night –
for our outcry will be as magnificent
as a star is bright.
We will flock to Paris
and together we shall stand –
against intolerance and injustice
we protest hand in hand…
…but all movements are flowers;
their blossoming is beautiful, their brilliance – sublime
but, tragically, they whither and die,
like all things, they are prey to Father Time.
Charlie’s name forgotten without so much as a good-bye.
Je suis…
Je suis?
