planned obsolence
my fears involve
an open city sky
big enough to swallow me,
as it already did you.
my fears involve
fireworks in the sky
heaven in your eyes
on a sultry summer night
we were thirteen miles
close
and eleven months far.
my fears involve
a seven minute walk
sunday morning
in which i walk past my bus stop
it’s hard to see your name in orange lights
in day time and throughout the night.
my fears are monstrosity
they are friday evenings
on suburban highways
not lit anymore by two moonstruck voices
woven together in static waves
its dark without headlights that scream
“NAT & LY ARE IN LOVE”
for 26 miles straight.
my fears scare me to death-
an eerie foreshadowing,
for when they all come true.
