Orange Leaves
Last leaves on an empty tree,
scattered,
concealing the bare branches,
revealing
bright patches of orange -
the remnants of beauty.
Last hope on a desolate plain,
isolated,
a single blade of grass,
at last,
that little bit of joy
before the next rain.
Like a lily pad on a dirty lake,
or a daisy amid the endless weeds,
orange flowers on leafless trees
bring the hope, remove the sorrow,
carry life forwards, towards tomorrow.

This is nature - always changing, leaving some prettiness, taking some away. This is hope - the signs of a better tomorrow. This is life - spotting the little bit of good among the bad.
