Favorite Quote:
“To be nobody but
yourself in a world
which is doing its best day and night to make you like
everybody else means to fight the hardest battle
which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.”
― E.E. Cummings

Dear sister
You search for something
You refuse to see the answer to
Uncertainty
Whose resolution lies
in the entanglement
Of your green eyes
You deny its existence
Simply because you see your soul
As something incomplete
Something half-finished
Lacking character
Insignificant.
What you don’t see
Cannot be seen by eyes closed
Scared of freedom never felt
Let go.
See yourself as what you are
A raging fire of newly found self
Wanting to see something weaker
And to diminish its presence
To merely a spark
Dear sister
Maybe you are right
but in the wrong way
You are made of sparks
Of wild green resilience
You are a battleground of
“I’m here”
And beneath your half convinced smile
Dear Mia
you know.

This poem is for my older sister; my biggest support and source of strength. I love you, Mia.
