The Life of A Mother

when I have children, if I have a daughter,
I will first be called Mama,
because the love in the first word lives in a child.
Then I will be Mom,
because Moooommmm, I’m not a little kid anymore.
Then I will be Mother,
because good lord, teenagers know how to defy their mothers.
then Mom will reappear
as teenage angst fades into knowledge only another mother can possess.
and finally on my death bed,
I will be Mama again
