Old Money
Money makes the world go around
It runs through every sidewalk, every floor and door.
Money is a piece of paper, or coins that hardly weigh but
It’ll control people now, tomorrow, and later.
Money will never tell you if it wants to be spent,
It has no voice, no opinions.
But it holds more power than the president
or an evil dictator.
Making you give in to your addictions,
your vanities and wants for a luxurious lifestyle
Money can make people, marry people, kill people,
create wars, or end up in our oceans.
Money creates a status, a want to be like him or her,
it encourages you to change how you were born, if you have enough of it.
Money has the power to eliminate starvation, poverty, diseases.
But remains almost stagnant when Cancer and AIDS are taking over countries
Money has the impressions of being able to fix anything, but it deceives you
It doesn’t just build and constitute, it destroys too
Money is desired, but never desires.
It can create jealousy or hatred.
Divorce, death, addictions.
Humans know Money, and he’s loved or wanted.
It’s hated and so needed.

I was inspired to write this piece when I did some brainstorming in my Creative Writing class and realized how money is everywhere and in everything. It first started as a poem called "The Five Dollar Bill" but then I thought I would change it to something that everyone could relate to.
