Snow Day
A glazing of crunch,
layered so perfectly.
Fluff, crunch, slush,
the order the snow falls.
Staring up above at the white blurred sky as the snow trickles down.
First it falls gently,
covering the ground so slowly it melts.
A 2 inch layer of mud tinted slush.
As the snow fall increases,
plummeting down,
the slush becomes covered by a layer of fluffy white snowflakes,
grasping to one another desperately,
forming a thinly laid out blanket of snow.
As the magical snow fall turns to a blasting blizzard,
the ground begins to grow like a bean stalk.
3 inches, 6 inches, 12 inches, 18 inches,
will it ever stop?
The kiddies crawl into bed,
the parents straight to sleep,
but the surprise in the morning is enough to see it and weep.
21 inches lay pilled on the ground,
2 of mud tinted slush,
covered by 17 of fluffy snowflakes,
lightly glazed with 3 inches of rough ice.
A winter-wonderland made almost instant.
Tread lightly, or stomp down?
30 pounds goes running across the yard.
the pitter patter of the steps go on for about 90 seconds,
until a crunch is heard.
One step too hard,
and the 30 pounds is swallowed.
Only the pom-pom of a wooly knit hat is visible.
Trudging along back through the wall of white,
the pom-pom begins to rise back up,
and the 30 pounds is visible once again.
Standing red-nosed on the back porch.
Eyes wander back and forth across the backyard,
pure amazement is the only trace of emotion detectable,
from the 30 pound boy on his first snow filled day.
