“Trick or Treat”
here we meet,
on every hallows eve.

A simple night,
for fear and fright,
and plenty of goodies to eat.

A costume a day keeps the doctor away,
or at least I think that’s how it goes.

But does it all count,
on the night full of shouts,
in the dark shadows below.

Black cats, and mirrors that break.
Or is it a ladder that makes you shake?

The myths are here all year round,
but only tonight,
I have no doubt.

The shadows come alive,
and the little “lies”,
are far from what they seem.

The children go prancing,
and sometimes even dancing,
down every sidewalk they see.

In hopes of a bucket,
that’s filled with some chocolates,
for them to happily eat.

But just like the man,
who’s dressed in all red,
and comes on Christmas Eve.

There’s always a time,
when the joke slowly dies,
and no one longer believes.

Until this night,
this one spooky night,
that leaves the fear instilled.

Children grow old,
and never forget,
the night that left them ill. A sickness so deep,
that you can’t sleep,
for days upon days upon days.

An illness so severe,
that heads are left unclear,
and the fear is never forgotten.

How could one sleep,
when a creak or a peep,
is heard in the long dark distance?

A shadow that crawls,
from under a log,
and follows you all the way home.
?But only tonight,
are they allowed to instill freight,
in the minds of the young and innocent.
