she made me into art
my mother had mentioned
that the small girl had
nude portraits that she’d done
hanging up on the walls
of her room. and at 1:00 am
i asked her to
“draw me like one of
her french girls,”
she replied, “i’ve never
drawn a french girl.
but i’ll draw you.”
and her pen was
kind of pink and the
music was kind of blue
and my cheeks were kind of red.
the rough sketch now
hangs on my wall,
above the old world map,
to the left of the
bob marley poster.
and it is beautiful.
she made me into art.
no, i already was.
