Lonely Thoughts
Like a cloud I wandered lonely
I floats on high hills and mountains,
I saw a crowd all at once
A host, of golden flower;
I sat beside the lake , the trees underground,
I dance in the cool breeze.
I shine like a star
I twinkle on the milky way,
I stretched in an ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
I glance at ten thousand,
I tossed my head in a dance
I danced beside the waves; but I
Out-did the glistening waves in hilarity:
A poet could not be happy,
In such a jolly company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What luxury demonstrated it had brought me:
I lied on my couch
In a empty or in thoughtful mood,
I blinked upon that indwelling eye
Which is the rapture of solitude;
I flood my heart with a joyful filling ,
And I danced with the flowers.
