Almost There
University is out there.
Acceptance, awaiting.
But that treasure on the hill,
Can only be attained,
If I am impressive,
Majestic,
And the diamond in the rush.
Aiming high is my life.
But why, when I shoot,
Are tall trees, big boulders,
And dissenters, in sight?
The higher I point,
The greater the goal,
I’m always shot down.
By friends, by strangers,
And sometimes by me.
I cannot live this way.
I cannot learn to listen
To the critics and the pricks
Who will go out and attempt
To obliterate my ambitions
And halt my crown dreams.
I’m so close to finishing
This journey of mine -
Of tests and exams,
Competitions and titles
To impress the big leagues.
The SAT’s, AP’s, and ACT’s are here.
It’s time to complete them
And knock ‘em all dead.
I have two more years left,
But really only one
To be filled with huge feats
And be the needle in the hay.
To earn a spot on a campus,
Make Mom and Dad proud,
I’ll endeavor leaps and bounds
For that letter of ‘congrats’.
