Dandelions
She wished on dandelions,
Watching the seeds
As they danced on the breeze,
Wishing that she, herself,
Could disappear
Into the morning dew.
Only the cry
Of her newborn daughter
Could shatter her fantasy.
She rose to her feet
Like the grass that grew
Under the silence of night
To hush her baby's screams,
To dry the wipe away tears that fell
From innocent lips.
In this moment,
The child's father mourned for
A chance to hold his daughter,
But love was lost
Between a boy and girl,
A family that became
At too young of an age,
A flower picked before it bloomed
In a field that was never watered.
