Breathe
You knew your breaths were growing short,
But you kept your mouth shut,
Only allowing air
To slip between
The spaces in your teeth.
You suffocated in silence.
Long labored breaths
Grew shorter.
Your lungs begged
For the taste of oxygen.
But you refused
Because in that moment
You forgot about me.
You forgot that if your breath did cease
That I would be left
Inhaling for every moment
That I'll miss you
And exhaling for every moment
You won't be there to kiss it better.
I never got to hold your hand
The night you closed your lips.
I was never able
To plead with your body
For one more day.
I loved you.
But in that monent,
You forgot about me.
