New Year

the ball drops
and the bell rings
and confetti flies and horns blow and couples kiss
It is only a different second
Only a different minute
but it and a new time with new goals and new expectations and new memories to be made
It is a new year
but there is no new me
And as I watch the people jump and shout and drink champagne, I am the pink flowered lunch box sitting under the slide in the dark, forgotten when the kids went in after recess
