I Am Me
I am from archery, from Winchester and shot gun shells.
I am from the dirt in the back garden,
who’s soil smelt of iron.
I am from the bee bomb, the blue pines and the rhubarb
who’s bitter sweet taste reminds me of home.
I am from summer sausage and quilting,
from Ronald and Kathryn.
I am from the hardworking and honest.
From “try your best” and “make good choices.”
From “chin up” and “keep trying”.
I am from freedom to believe what I want,
and what I believe is in the power of things around me
I am from Menomonee Falls with German roots
From venison and home made jelly,
strawberry, rhubarb, and blueberry pineapple
I am from sewing, dirt roads, and four-wheeling.
I am from nature where I learned about life,
to fishing at Pewaukee lake where I learned patience.
I am from the hundred-and-one first
air borne of which my grandfather was,
the dental assisting, and the hardworking linemen
like my father and brother who face every element of nature,
while ricking their life’s to give power to others.
From the truly hard working and honest.
