Piano Keys (Show Me)
Show me my fleeting fantasy
How fleeting my love could be.
Cause if this is going to be something
I want it to be great.
I want it to be one of the best albums of my life
And if not, I'll stay single.
Please don't play me like you play your piano keys
Smooth and thoughtfully.
It took training to get you there.
Please listen to me like the music you make:
Hearing every note, but not catching every mistake.
I want the ability to sing around you without fear
As good as if I'm singing for a crowd of a thousand in one person.
And if you like you can play well and leave the stage well played.
People like us have to practice to make it right.
Show me my fleeting deceptions
And love me even when my voice breaks.
Don't smile if and when you break me
But appreciate that you could affect me like that
Composing tears on my face.
Show me you're worth holding my tongue when I'm angry
And show me you don't have to prove your worth to me.
Yet, still show you will fight for me
And try to win my true love.
I am no damsel in distress
But it is nice to have a hero in those stressful times.
Show me that you see right through me
And still find me a mystery.
You see the bad in me and stay for the whole,
Not just the good.
Show me your mind
And tell me what makes you tick
Or ticked off.
Show me your hands
And take mine to lead me on adventures.
I am willing to be your right hand woman.
Spill out your world to me
And show me the silly, the serious, and the salvage.
Show me you are not afraid of dancing
With or without me.
I have seen your careful confidence when your listening
Like the speakers are your piano keys.
It takes a little time,
But you can gleen a melody
And reply with your own rhythm.
Show me your world
And I'll show you my brave and beating heart
And let the sound of it spread like the wings of a storm,
The thundercloud at the center with all the black and white pictures
No, I'm not that little kid anymore
I don't like tricks of the mind.
I don't need another to twist your words around.
Straightforward and gentleness from your lips
Is a handsome recipe.
Let us never become strangers.
Better yet, let us become better acquainted with one another.
Show me spontaneity
And I'll see if I can clear my schedule
Or if I need to plan before I dream.
Pursue me with a touch, a word, a look
And follow up on foot.
I am not the type to walk away for drama
(I will if I need to).
Help me to spill my words onto a page
And help me not to throw them at you.
Unless you're willing to volley them back and forth with me.
Until we can discover we're throwing stones
And We'd rather be closer than a stone's throw.
Let me volley your anger to and fro
And if you turn your face away from me
Please remember to be patient with me.
We are only human.
May we always end the songs
With laughter through the microphone
And the piano keys on a high note,
Because I want this to be one of the best albums of my life.
Play me like your piano keys
Play well, play right.
