The Remaining Woods
I wander through the same woods
A different time
Eight years later
Overgrown yellow grass coats the path
That was once there
And still is.
Broken limbs and breathless trees
Scattered across the ground
Everything is still
Memories of childhood
Laughter and movement
Occupy my brain
But running through the welcoming woods
With no destination in mind
Is no longer.
Time wasn't an enemy
Nothing mattered
Responsibilities were nonexistent
Now here I am in the same woods
A different time
Where everything matters
Everything has changed
But the woods remain the same.
