Waiting for a ride
I wait outside in the late evening
waiting for my car to pull up
sitting silently after a long night
of performing our encouraging melodies.
Groups of friends come and go,
as I engage in
a friendly banter with the others waiting,
trying to avoid social awkwardness.
While they are all picked up
one by one
leaving me alone.
With my phone dead
and no one around,
I feel comfort in my surroundings.
I sit thinking about life, the universe, and
all the homework I have.
Doors locked I’m stuck outside,
wondering
how much longer it will be.
The Night is very calming
with the only the sound of wind
blowing through the treetops,
and the occasional hum of a passing car.
I look around gazing at
the few stars twinkling in the sky
and the beautiful orange glow
of the flickering streetlights.
My attention jumps
with each passing car
as I hope that it is my parent
who's come to bring me home.
Until finally they arrive.
