Silence
Faced with not getting anywhere,
he knew he wouldn’t have to say a word.
His mere presence sent an ambiguous message.
His impulse was to affect the menacing stride of the law.
And breathing deep appreciative breaths,
as if he’d gotten out to stretch his legs and enjoy the scenery.
He cast a furtive glance downward.
It is well known that silence can at times,
be the worst kind of psychosis.
Sociopathic inclinations.
Antisocial behavior.
Depression.
He briefly tested his memory,
for techniques for talking down suicidals.
He came up empty, and was grateful that they were on,
solid ground.
