My Dog

Your large structured body runs like no other,

Chasing after a small animal in our backyard.
Your head whips up at the sound of your name,
And you run as fast as a bullet up to the steps,
You quickly climb the steps into the welcoming home.
The wet droplets from the rain fall softly on the floor,
As you shake your body left to right.
Your black and white spotted coat is silky to the touch,
And no other feeling is like your small, black, wet nose.
You jump at my legs, begging to be fed
Your tail is wagging in anticipation

I will make sure you are always comfortable
That when you get old and can not run like you used to,
I will help you climb up the stairs.
When your tail does not wag as fast as it used to,
I will still know you are excited to see me.

This piece is a part of a poetry unit I had to write for my English class, it is a Dinka poem about my dog.
