Pompeii Prances
Tick-tock, tick-tock…
Toes tap to a former city’s song,
dancing to the constant reminder of time.
Tick-tock, tick-tock…
On every corner, an old song plays,
through new feet, a new dance made.
Tick tock, tick-tock…
He stands spirited, singing for a rundown street,
while bright eyes move to the devoted sound of time.
Tick-tock, tick-tock…
Smoke smothers the sky,
a song’s pace quickens as time stretches by.
Tick-tock, tick-tock…
Peace vanishes along the sun and panic now an essence of his tune,
time changes, so the dance does too.
Tick-tock, tick-tock…
Sorrow arises, like the smoke in what was clear air,
it’s almost time, and people stare.
Tick-tock, tick-tock…
One final dance, to escape thickening black,
and sights of grey cross breathless faces.
Street music stops, but time goes on…
Toes tap to a suffocated city’s song,
dancing to the endless echo of tick-tock… tick-tock.
