Under chains

Schools, the place kids learn and grow
Schools, the place kids are evaluated and categorized
Where they are judged and beat with words
A place they go to get a grade and please parents
A prison to hold those who might have strayed from sociality
A cage for birds whose colors fade with tests and numbers
A chokehold to drown the minority and those who care
To wake up so early you become numb to life
To follow so much we do not know how to lead
We become copies to be employees and workers
Where you are based on a numbers and letters
While fish can’t clime trees they asked us to fly
Where we hate or are hated, judged, and mocked
Trying to impress with clothes, hair, and money
When it should be deeper than skin
How have we lived through this at length
How can we watch this and why don’t we stop this

Being in school and seeing how little freedom and choice kids have inspired this poem
