Star in the Night
Once upon a time of young
in the year of six,
storm clouds basked in hues of gray
and Orion flaunted risk.
Birds twittered tweets of run run run
while stars relented to dark,
winking at their shadow- master
soon to make his mark.
For in the midst of war and fear,
a red fire burned with hope,
hidden inside the heart of mine
flaming in an upwards slope.
A beacon! A light! A star in the night!
A song, a cry of joy!
Rarities in the miltia of difference
plotted against Conformity's ploy.
So here was I, head-held-high,
frightened, fearful, hidden away;
For the star in the night never had shone so bright
as when she was the red in a tsunami of gray.

This is about when I realized it's ok to be different, and how we are all smart, clever, and unique, but sometimes too afraid to show it in fear we will be made fun of.
