Forever Is Not Forever
I want to talk about depression.
The overwhelming feeling of sadness that many people experience.
How most are too terrified to ask for help.
How people take their lives because they feel like they’re trapped in a dark cave.
I want to talk about lonely nights.
How some nights we lie in bed, staring at the wall, crying
and don’t really know why.
How we purposely think of reasons to hate ourselves
so we cry even harder.
How we continue to think that this feeling will never fade.
I want to talk about school.
How missing a test is more important than a student’s mental health.
How anxiety can make students not even want to face the school day.
How teachers expect us to get A’s not knowing we get two hours of sleep a night.
How putting in headphones can block out the feeling of being alone.
I want to talk about life.
How we take advantage of it and don’t appreciate
the best moments.
Like the time your best friend made you laugh so hard you cried.
Or the feeling of accomplishment you got after your principal handed you your diploma.
I want to talk about death.
How we mourn the loss of our loved ones
but there are many reasons to be happy
because of the wonderful memories you share with those people.
I want to talk about depression.
How you’re not alone, no matter how much pain you feel.
How it gets better if you let it.
Depression doesn’t have to be forever.
