When you’re in love:
1. Never leave her angry. Work it out. Know that her anger is equal to the fierce winds and waters that weather down the rocks. Her heart is bigger than you know, but her anger is colossal in the fact that it will tear you apart. While she’s angry, remind her how intense she is and how much you love that about her. If she tells you to leave her alone, go but let your last words be about how amazing she is and how she makes your heart scream.
2. Let her cry. Whether it be a sad movie, or her great uncle’s funeral. Hold her as the tears erupt from her crystalline eyes, and let them soak into your sweater like the ground in your garden swallows the rain. Let her body quake as you wrap your arms around her frame, rub her back softly as if she were delicate.
3. Know that she isn’t fragile. She’s stronger than you think, and she isn’t some glass doll that’ll sit high on a shelf. She’s the toughest person you know, and she’s been through so much more than you realize. Her body has survived heartbreak and loss, death and birth; she doesn’t need you to protect her.
4. Let her go. You don’t know how much you need her until she’s gone; you won’t realize how sweet her kisses were, how tender her hugs felt, how much she supported you and your silly dreams. But despite all this, let her go. She’ll tell you she doesn’t love you anymore, or that she needs the space; listen to her. Let her go because she’s the sun, and you aren’t the only one who needs her light to live.
