Anya & Ivan MAG
I. Anya
Twip-twap, pit-pat
Goes the stone beneath my
Three-toed feet.
This is the city of endless cathedrals
And I’ve tapped
Across the
Steeples and turrets and stone
Structures of each one.
I’ve seen the stained glass
Of each one
And I won’t ever fly
Beyond the winding cityscape.
II. Ivan
Scutter, hiss, purr.
Too many mice to catch
In the country.
Lurking in the lilacs
And the tall grass
And the blue
Wood cabinets
That squeak.
The dark trees
Watch me.

I was inspired by a collage I created while attending Hamline Young Writers' Workshop over the summer.
