" All who wander are not lost." J.R.R. Tolkien

Saturday in your bedroom

your headphones are on

showtunes play softly in the background

The world turns

The people move

The children play

Dragging feet on cracked sidewalks

A breath escapes you

as the laughter and lights from the street filter into your ears

You think about the ones sitting cross-legged on their beds like you

Listening to music like yours

Noticing the things you have noticed

The ones who play it safe

The ones who can feel their broken hearts shattering against the pavement

The ones who have followed the instruction manual and not daring to stray from it

They are the ones that you can understand without ever having to speak outloud

Then you think of the ones laughing as they dart beneath the neon lights

They are the ones your heart reaches for

The ones that make you speak outloud

The ones you have to listen to to understand

Your voice speaks outloud to them:

Long live the people who sing with the windows rolled down

Long live the people whose broken hearts litter their pavements

Long live the midnight to sunrise dancers

Long live the pranksters

the poets

the daredevils

Long live the sweating athletes

Long live the passion of their fans

Long live the concert screamers

Long live the ten year frienships

Long live the people that dance in the rain

Long live the dreamers

the romantics

the risktakers

Long live the people that were scarred in storms because they chose to go out and meet them

You breath in

are startled when you realize you've gone through five songs during your pondering

Saturday in your bedroom

Your headphones are off

you lean your head out of the open window

laughter is playing in the background.
