My Old Friend
Do you know who my first friend was?
My old friend, Procrastination.
He appears when no one else is around,
My old friend, Procrastination.
When school starts, he emerges from hiding,
Saying that deadline isn't for awhile.
Why don't you indulge in some self gratification?
Said my old friend, Procrastination.
He's a sneaky one, he blurs deadlines,
My old friend, Procrastination.
He makes anything else seem much more worthwhile,
My old friend, Procrastination.
Try as I might I can't avoid him,
I keep falling into his traps,
Why can't you just leave me alone, I cry,
To my old friend, Procrastination.
12 AM, dark circles under my eyes,
The crop of my old friend, Procrastination.
Low marks, an unpleasant surprise,
I can only blame my old friend, Procrastination.
I don't want to be friends with you anymore, I say,
My head hung in shame and dismay,
But he only shrugged his shoulders and said,
You'll come back, You always do,
Because I'm your old friend, Procrastination.

A little something that came to mind during the summer of junior year. I wrote it thinking about the way a children's book might describe Procrastination.
